My lessons would be focused on needs of the students. I want to create an atmosphere where the student feels welcome to ask questions.
For my lessons, they would most start with a little activity simply to get the student engaged and ready to dive into the concept.
I would like for the student to tell me what they want to learn or focus on for that lesson. For instance, it could be an area which they feel they are weaker at, then we could spend the hour focusing on that, in order to boost their confidence.
Lessons will be personalised to the needs of the student so if someone is a visual learner, I would try and explain concepts in a different way to if someone learned easier with notes.
Mainly, lessons will start with a starter activity, followed by focusing on the topic selected for the bulk of the lesson and ending with doing practice questions. The student will be free to ask questions any time they want, so as to allow them to feel more comfortable.
I would incorporate fun activities and games in order to make learning an enjoyable experience and also prevent burn out.
As someone who has been tutored for the majority of my life, I am certain I can transfer my skills to more students now. I have developed a plethora of skills over the years which have helped me attain academic excellence but have also modelled my way of thinking. I strongly believe that students need a strong foundation especially in maths and science to make these subjects easier at a higher level.
