Hello! My name is Amy and I am an English Tutor with 7 years of experience tutoring high school students with a wide range of backgrounds, skills and abilities, equipping them to best meet their potential in their study of English.
I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Master of Philosophy in Theology, having completed my bachelor's degree in English and sociology at the University of Sydney in 2022. At USYD, I was named a Dalyell Scholar as well as being included on the Dean's List for Academic Excellence.
In my work with students, I am passionate about understanding the unique set of needs and abilities of the individual, with the aim of equipping them with the skills necessary to thrive in their subject. My goal for each student is that would not only meet the requirements of their subject, but feel empowered to think critically and creatively, speak eloquently and write incisively, understanding the importance of clarity and nuance in language in both their personal and academic development.
My approach is always to meet the student at the level they find themselves, and to usher them forward with encouragement and my own enthusiasm for the subject. I have seen the least enthusiastic students arrive at levels of interest and engagement that caught even them by surprise, not to mention their increase in confidence, skill and, of course, marks. Together with students, I supplement schoolwork with essay writing skills, conceptual discussion and literary analysis. I aim to share my passion for literature, language and ideas with my students, along with the skills and knowledge I have gained through my own diverse studies. My hope is that they would emerge from my lessons feeling a sense of clarity, enthusiasm and confidence in their work.
