As a creative and enthusiastic tutor with a degree in Biological Sciences and over a year of dedicated experience working with students including higher ability, SEND, and EAL, I offer bespoke lessons that always achieve heightened confidence and conceptual understanding, and later more effective exam technique.

My lessons always begin with a snappy, engaging task to assess a group consensus and students' current level of understanding, before live marking and encouraging students to share their answers. This task transitions smoothly to the main section, which is carefully scaffolded using gradual release, modelling, and continuous assessments for learning before a consolidation task. My style within lesson is flexible- while I prepare for misconception correction and differentiation within lesson plans, I can also anticipate having to adapt teaching during the lesson, as I constantly assess student progress and understanding on an individual level. Each session blends structured guidance with flexibility: using visual aids, interactive exercises, and real-life examples to make concepts clear and relatable. Whether it's breaking down complex biological systems or reviewing foundational science and maths skills, I adapt my approach to meet the individual student's pace and preferred style. Throughout my time with students, I focus on identifying their main learning barriers and challenges, and ensure they have an active role in establishing their own goals, then slowly build up learning to remedy these learning barriers. I can focus on refining exam technique once I determine that a foundational understanding is progressing adequately.

I encourage the variable ways that each student learns and understands, particularly with SEND students, whereby I allow them to use different skills in consolidation tasks, such as by designing kinaesthetic activities. The environment is intentionally built to be supportive and calm, so students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, and their progress, no matter how minimal, is celebrated. Lessons are planned for students to grow their self-esteem and ability to study gradually more independently.

I enjoy creating learning resources that allow students to finish each hour-long session with study material that they can refer to later, but this approach can be adapted to online sessions though my experience is in-person mostly.

If you're looking for a patient, passionate tutor who genuinely enjoys helping students grow and succeed, I’d be delighted to work with you!
