As a graduate of The Open University, I understand the need for a flexible approach to learning and have successfully fit study around other commitments. I achieved a first-class honours degree in English Literature, so I know how to overcome obstacles and achieve top grades in my subject.

My lessons encourage students and boost their confidence. I focus on helping students meet the demands of their course, which often means focusing on understanding and meeting the assessment objectives. However, I am flexible in my approach to online tutoring, listening and adapting to my students’ needs.

I help my pupils develop transferable skills to support them whatever their path looks like after our sessions. For example, many students struggle with essay writing, and find it a difficult skill to master. I share methods I have learnt work for me, but I have experience offering various approaches and adapting to a student’s individual needs. These skills can also help in other academic subjects, jobs, or university applications where you may need to demonstrate extended writing skills.

Having tutored English Literature and English Language qualifications for some time, I have found great resources which have benefitted previous students. Also, I encourage my pupils to develop similar research skills and find out more about their books for themselves.

Knowing how to approach texts is crucial to any English course. So, I help students improve their critical reading skills, developing their ability to assess and evaluate texts. This skill applies to other subjects too and encourages students to pursue lifelong learning as they experience the joy of learning outside the classroom.
