I begin by identifying exactly where a student needs the most support. Many students naturally spend too much time revising topics they already feel confident in, often because these are the most enjoyable or familiar. My aim is to make revision as effective and targeted as possible by focusing on areas that will lead to the biggest improvement.
During an introductory lesson, I assess the student’s understanding across key topics to highlight specific weaknesses and gaps in knowledge. From there, each lesson is carefully structured around these areas. We work through concepts step by step, practise exam-style questions, and analyse where and why mistakes occur, allowing me to address issues at their root rather than just correcting answers.
I place strong emphasis on building a deep understanding of each topic, not just memorisation. I also teach students how to approach questions logically, manage exam pressure, and apply their knowledge confidently under timed conditions. Once a student feels secure and confident with a topic they previously found challenging, we move on to the next, ensuring consistent progress over time.
Throughout the tutoring process, I adapt my teaching style to suit each student, aiming to build confidence, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.
