For lesson plans and formats I’d firstly like to get to know the student on the first session, to figure out what works for them and what doesn’t, and identify what they struggle with. No one student fits the same plan which is why personalised tutoring is needed in some cases to help students understand what they’re learning in ways that classrooms can’t address. I understand how frustrating it can be when study plans just don’t look right to you, maybe there’s too much information and you prefer visuals in order to understand things, maybe you’re the type that needs to be explained in a different way, and sometimes you just need to repeatedly drill yourself with new questions to make it stick. I personally have found it helpful to make study guides complete with the information necessary for exams, I then would take a few tests to identify what areas I don’t really get just yet and tailor my study guide, following this I’d learn them better, and then would continue to take questions until I can get them all correct and then I start all over. One thing about exams as well is knowing how to apply the knowledge to specific questions, something I’ve had extensive experience with in my undergrad, and I can help students go from having half marks in their essay questions to full marks from just knowing how to identify the mechanisms for answers and then apply what they already know for the specific question.
