Before the lesson, I like to gain an understanding of whether the student has any specific topics they would like to focus on, or whether they are looking for general improvement in maths. This helps me tailor the session to their needs from the outset.
At the beginning of the first session, I give a short, tailored test to check the student’s current level across key areas of maths. This helps me quickly identify strengths and any gaps in understanding so I can plan future lessons effectively.
Lessons are structured but flexible. I typically begin with a recap of previous learning, followed by clear explanations of new topics. I then use plenty of guided practice and active recall through targeted questions, helping students strengthen their ability to apply knowledge rather than just recognise it. This approach builds both understanding and confidence over time.
My goal is to help students develop a strong understanding of maths, improve their confidence, and achieve their target grades. I focus on achieving high grades in exams and building lasting skills in problem solving and independent thinking.
I hold a degree in Engineering and achieved an A grade in A-Level Maths, giving me a strong mathematical foundation and experience applying maths to real-world problems. This allows me to explain concepts clearly and in different ways until they are fully understood, supporting students of varying abilities at both primary and GCSE level.
