What my lessons are like
Format
One-to-one lessons, online or in person, usually 60 minutes (45-minute sessions are available for busy professionals). Each lesson has a clear goal, a quick recap of the last session and a short practical task for the week. You'll always know where you are and what's next.
Content
Lessons are built around the situations you'll actually face when you move: greetings and introductions, getting around, taxis, shopping and bargaining, restaurants, renting a home, dealing with banks and services, and making friends and colleagues. I teach Gulf and Levantine Arabic, the dialect people really speak in daily life, and introduce the alphabet gradually, with transliteration, so reading and writing never feel overwhelming. Cultural etiquette is woven into every lesson, because in the Middle East how you say something matters as much as what you say.
Dynamics
Relaxed, encouraging and conversation-first. You'll be speaking from the very first lesson, in a space where mistakes are welcome. I adapt the pace and focus to your destination, your timeline and your goals. After each session you'll get a short vocabulary and phrase list, so you can practise before we meet again.
For companies and relocating teams
I offer tailored programmes for employees and executives relocating to the Middle East: a structured plan with a clear start and end point, one-to-one or small-group sessions, and content adapted to your sector. That can include workplace small talk, meetings, introductions to clients, business etiquette and the key vocabulary for your industry. Lessons can be scheduled around working hours, and progress summaries are available for HR or the line manager.
My experience
Arabic is my mother tongue, so you'll learn the natural, everyday language rather than textbook phrases. I'm also a UK chartered accountant who leads finance transformation programmes, and I know what professional environments demand. I plan carefully, explain complex things simply and keep people moving towards a goal. I bring that same structure and clarity to my teaching.
I have 15 years of experience working with Middle Eastern clients and teams, and I have taught/mentored more than 40 students.
Who it's for
Individuals, families and professionals moving to the Middle East, and companies preparing staff for an assignment there. No prior Arabic is needed.
