My lessons are carefully structured, supportive, and adapted to each child’s individual needs. Each session begins with a short warm-up to build confidence and revisit key skills. This may include phonics sounds, number bonds, high-frequency words, or quick reading activities to activate prior learning.
The main part of the lesson focuses on one clear learning goal, taught through practical, hands-on activities and visual resources. I use structured phonics, games, manipulatives, and guided practice to help children understand and remember new learning. Where appropriate, I break learning into small, manageable steps to reduce cognitive load and prevent children from feeling overwhelmed.
Sessions are interactive and encouraging, with plenty of opportunities for children to talk through their thinking, ask questions, and practise independently with support. I use positive reinforcement and clear success criteria so children understand what they are working towards.
I regularly assess understanding during lessons through questioning, observation, and short tasks, and adjust my teaching accordingly. At the end of each session, I review progress with the child and share key points with parents, along with suggestions for home practice and resources.
I have experience teaching Year 1 and supporting pupils with a wide range of abilities, including children who lack confidence, have gaps in learning, or need additional reinforcement. My aim is to build strong foundations, foster independence, and help every child feel motivated, capable, and proud of their learning.
