My lessons are structured, patient and focused on building confidence. I usually start by identifying the student’s current strengths and weaknesses, either through discussion, short questions or looking at examples they have found difficult. This helps me understand whether the issue is with the core concept, the method, exam technique or confidence.
I then explain the topic clearly using step-by-step reasoning, diagrams and worked examples. For Maths and Physics, I think visual explanations are especially useful, so I try to show what is happening rather than just giving formulas to memorise. Once the student understands the idea, we practise questions together, gradually moving from guided examples to more independent exam-style problems.
I adapt the lesson to each student’s pace. Some students need help filling gaps and revisiting basics, while others need support with harder questions, timing or applying knowledge in unfamiliar contexts. I encourage students to ask questions throughout and I check understanding regularly rather than moving on too quickly.
I also like to summarise the key points at the end of each lesson and suggest what the student should practise next. Where useful, I can help students organise their revision, spot common mistakes and develop a clearer method for approaching longer exam questions.
My aim is for students to leave each lesson with a clearer understanding of the topic, better problem-solving habits and more confidence approaching future questions.
