My second year at university was completely online, so I have felt the struggles of trying to understand difficult concepts through a screen. I use this experience to shape my own style of tutoring, and make a considerable effort to ensure that my tutees are heard and not lost on the subjects we cover. Maths can be fun, I try and create concepts that are memorable so that when we're learning we don't necessarily feel like we're learning.

I believe the most effective form of learning is application, to see the content in a slightly different context but be able to recognise the similarities and the methods to take is the greatest way to make ideas stick. My lessons will focus on this point, we review ideas where necessary but most of our time will be focussed on applying these concepts to different situations so that we feel comfortable enough to apply them anywhere. This is the added benefit of private tuition, focused time to work through problems with immediate guidance or feedback.

If our sessions are online then I will have a tablet present to work through individual pieces with students as if I were in the room with them.

I, myself am not an inherent genius when it comes to mathematics. My skills and knowledge have been built over years of hard work and applying my principle of application. I think this places me in a good spot to tutor as I am fully aware of the struggle and frustration that mathematics can bring at times.
