By first assessing a tutee’s understanding of a topic, I am able to tailor each lesson to their individual ability and learning style. I place strong emphasis on teaching students how to learn effectively, such as knowing key revision skills and trying ones which work for them specifically, as well as advising on how to approach unfamiliar questions and plan clear, structured answers. I draw on my own experience and knowledge of GCSE mark schemes to guide students in targeting the skills and knowledge that examiners look for, helping them to revise efficiently and strategically. Lessons are structured but adaptable, usually beginning with clear explanations before moving on to guided practice and exam-style questions. I encourage students to explain their reasoning so gaps in understanding can be addressed early, and I focus on building confidence and strong exam technique, all while keeping lessons engaging and, of course, as fun as possible!
In addition to my academic experience, I have participated in one-to-one tutoring and school mentorship programs, including Colet Mentoring, where I helped students strengthen their skills in various subjects. I also mentored English language in Italy, supporting students in developing their writing and comprehension abilities. Having achieved 11 GCSE 9s, I understand the demands of the curriculum firsthand and can help students build strategies that work for them, balancing content mastery with exam-focused practice. Drawing on these experiences, I aim not only to help students improve their grades but also nurture confidence and (hopefully!) a genuine enthusiasm for learning, encouraging them to approach new topics with curiosity and resilience, and consolidate knowledge of learnt topics.
