My name is Alan, and for the past 20 years my life has revolved around food and the people who love to cook it.

I spent twenty years working as a chef—not in a single style or setting, but across the full spectrum of professional kitchens. Those years taught me the discipline of service, the precision of technique, and the creativity that turns good ingredients into memorable dishes. I learned how a kitchen actually runs, where beginners struggle, and what separates a competent cook from a confident one.

For the last ten years, I've brought that experience into education as a hospitality and catering lecturer. Teaching gave me a second craft: the ability to break down complex skills, meet learners where they are, and build genuine confidence. I hold a PGCE and assessor qualifications, and I understand how to structure learning so that it actually sticks.

That combination—professional kitchen experience and qualified teaching expertise—is what I offer as a private tutor.
What makes private tuition different is that it's built entirely around you. There's no fixed syllabus you must squeeze into. Instead, we start with your goal. Perhaps you want to master the fundamentals as a home cook. Perhaps you're preparing for a qualification, sharpening skills for a career change, or refining a specific cuisine or technique. Whatever your desired outcome, I design the course around it.

I tailor pace, content, and challenge to suit you. Sessions can be hands-on and practical, theory-focused, or a blend of both. Progress is measured against your objectives, not a generic checklist. And because I've assessed learners formally for years, I can give you clear, structured feedback that shows exactly how you're improving.

Thirty years of experience, one focus: helping you achieve exactly what you set out to learn.
I'd love to discuss what you want to accomplish. Let's cook something great together.
