My lessons are structured, engaging, and fully tailored to each student’s needs. I begin with a short review to check understanding and consolidate previous learning, then introduce new topics with clear, step-by-step explanations. This is followed by guided practice, where I work through examples with the student, and independent practice to build confidence, fluency, and accuracy.

I work closely with exam board exercise books to ensure lessons are aligned with the national curriculum and focused on the most effective methods for success in assessments. I regularly revisit key topics to reinforce learning, close gaps in understanding, and track progress over time so students build solid foundations rather than surface knowledge.

Lessons are interactive and supportive, encouraging students to ask questions, explain their reasoning, and develop strong problem-solving skills rather than relying on memorised methods. I adapt my teaching style to suit each learner, ensuring concepts are presented in a way they can understand and apply confidently. Where appropriate, I use real-life examples to make maths more meaningful and engaging.

I place strong emphasis on building confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset towards maths. Students are encouraged to see mistakes as part of the learning process, helping them become more independent and less afraid of challenging questions. I also explicitly teach students how to learn effectively—developing strategies for revision, problem-solving, and exam technique that make future learning easier and more efficient.

With my background in engineering and over 13 years of professional experience, I bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills to my teaching. Combined with my experience supporting my own primary school-aged children, I understand how children learn best and how to keep them motivated and engaged. My goal is to build strong mathematical foundations, independence, and long-term confidence so every student can reach their full potential.
