I have over a year of tutoring experience and have helped a wide range of students achieve the grades they were aiming for, with many going on to exceed their initial targets. I believe lessons are most effective when they are tailored to the individual student, so I encourage students to let me know beforehand what they would like to focus on, whether that is learning or revising a topic, working through past-paper questions, or a combination of both. For content-based lessons, we spend the majority of the session developing a clear understanding of the topic, with questions incorporated throughout to check understanding and keep the lesson interactive. I then finish the session with a short set of questions covering what we have learned and, where appropriate, set additional practice for homework to reinforce the material and help transfer it into long-term memory. For past-paper sessions, I can share questions directly from my iPad and work through them interactively with the student, discussing the reasoning, methods and exam technique required to reach the correct answer. If the student also has access to a tablet, they can annotate and work through the questions alongside me, making the lesson even more engaging and collaborative.
