Akin Sankofa

i have over thirty years experience in teaching as a home tutor, teacher, lecturer. i have worked i secondary schools and in further education. i have taught at all ability levels from 11 to 18 year olds, i have taught adults on access to higher education science courses. My main subjects to advanced level are chemistry and biology. i teach physics and combined science to GCSE level.
In the last 10 years i have honed my skills as a one-to-one tutor. My teaching style begins with a formal personal assessment of the students learning style. From there i develop a tailor made strategy for how the student can maximise his/her learning. Once the student with my advice develops a style that suits them, learning becomes fun and my role changes from instructor to facilitator and mentor. My lessons can vary and i find one to one teaching we get through material at a much faster rate than whole group teaching. Assessment is also continuous and feedback is immediate. I use often multimedia, technology, televisual equipment in lessons. i include students in the preparation of future lessons. Parents are constantly updated on students progress. i carry a portable whiteboard as a learning tool. i can teach in person or via online learning on Zoom and MS Teams. Many of my students have gone to have careers in medicine, biotechnology research, chemical engineering, sports sciences, forensic science, and science education. i love doing what i do!
