Akhaila Collins

Hi,
My name is Akhaila Collins, and I have recently finished my A levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Maths (achieving 4A*). I am now taking a gap year before pursuing a Natural sciences degree at university. During School I gained experience in tutoring younger students on challenging maths problems. This was through a partnership program between Highgate Junior School and St Michael’s School where I volunteered weekly as a maths mentor. I gained skills in communication and leadership as well as refining my ability to explain complex problems to younger students. I also spent some during Year 12 volunteering at Chemistry clinic to help younger students gain confidence in solving Chemistry problems with a focus on upcoming exams. During tutoring sessions I try to engage the student and aim to give them space to work out answer for themselves as this is the most constructive way of learning, while also making sure to guide them in the right direction. During exam preparationI can help students with revision strategies with a focus on specification points for that course.
