I hold a PhD in Chemistry and have over 25 years of experience teaching A-Level Chemistry online across the AQA, OCR A, and Edexcel specifications. Throughout my teaching career, I have developed a deep understanding of the A-Level Chemistry curriculum, examination requirements, and the challenges students commonly face. I cover the entire syllabus, from atomic structure, bonding, and energetics to organic chemistry, equilibria, kinetics, electrochemistry, and required practicals.

My teaching approach focuses on making complex chemical principles accessible and manageable by breaking difficult topics into smaller steps and building understanding gradually. I deliver all my lessons online using a graphic tablet, which allows me to provide clear, interactive explanations, annotate diagrams, demonstrate chemical mechanisms, and work through mathematical calculations in real time. This approach creates an engaging learning experience similar to traditional face-to-face teaching, while offering the convenience and flexibility of studying from home. Students can follow each explanation closely, ask questions throughout the lesson, and receive immediate feedback on their understanding.

A major focus of my teaching is examination preparation and developing effective exam technique. I use past examination papers, official mark schemes, examiner expectations, and carefully selected practice questions to familiarise students with the style and demands of A-Level Chemistry examinations. I teach students how to interpret command words, structure their answers accurately, show the necessary working in calculations, and use precise scientific terminology to gain maximum marks. I also help students recognise common mistakes, understand why marks are lost, and learn how to avoid repeating those errors in future examinations.

I provide particular support with challenging areas such as organic reaction mechanisms, equilibrium calculations, rates of reaction, pH and buffer calculations, redox reactions, enthalpy changes, and practical-based examination questions. I also help students develop their understanding of experimental procedures, uncertainties, evaluation, data analysis, and the interpretation of graphs and results. These skills are essential for success in both the theoretical and practical aspects of A-Level Chemistry.

My lessons are interactive, supportive, and structured around clear learning objectives. I regularly assess students' understanding through targeted questions and examination-style exercises, identifying areas of weakness and adapting the pace and content of each lesson accordingly. Where necessary, I revisit foundational concepts before progressing to more advanced material, ensuring that students develop a secure understanding of the subject.

I understand that Chemistry can sometimes seem overwhelming, particularly when students encounter unfamiliar concepts or struggle to connect different parts of the syllabus. My aim is to remove these barriers by creating a positive learning environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning from them. I encourage independent thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills so that students become increasingly confident and less reliant on guidance when answering questions.
