I am an accomplished English language educator with over 15 years of experience specializing in the comprehensive teaching of Language Arts, including Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Grammar, and Vocabulary. My instructional expertise encompasses a broad range of curricula, including the IGCSE syllabus, English Literature, Communicative English, and English for Specific Purposes (ESP). I am also highly experienced in preparing learners for globally recognized English proficiency examinations such as the IGCSE (English as a Second Language & First Language), IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, iB English, and MUET.
In 2012, I was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, through which I pursued advanced studies in American Literature at Northern Illinois University, USA. My academic journey also included specialized pedagogical training in Foreign Language Education at Syracuse University, New York, further enriching my global perspective and best practices on language teaching.
Notably, during my time in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar, I was also shortlisted as a final-stage candidate for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship—one of the UK’s most competitive and globally renowned scholarship programmes—for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom. This recognition reflects not only my academic excellence and leadership potential but also my commitment to continuous professional development on an international scale.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with a culturally diverse student base. Approximately 90% of my students are South Korean and Japanese learners, ranging from young learners to retirees (3 to 70+) years old. The remaining 10% of my learners hail from countries including Russia, Thailand, China, and several Middle Eastern nations.
Notably, I have worked closely and actively with the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) in developing and delivering the Bahasa Melayu curriculum for American university students under the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program. My contributions included designing syllabi, creating original teaching and assessment materials, and serving as one of the primary instructors. I also led teams of fellow educators, ensuring pedagogical consistency, cultural sensitivity, and instructional excellence throughout the program.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is a strong commitment to student-centered learning, where every lesson is carefully designed to align with the individual needs, abilities, and aspirations of each learner. With near-native English proficiency and fluency in both British and American accents, I actively expose my students to a range of global English accents and cultural nuances.
