In the last 2 years, I have tutored both GCSE and A Level Mathematics. I achieved A* grades in both A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, a Grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics, and full marks in several A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics papers. This has given me a strong understanding of exam technique, problem-solving under pressure, and the common mistakes and traps students tend to fall into. Having recently completed these qualifications myself, I am very familiar with the current specifications and what is required to achieve top grades.

My teaching focuses on building a holistic understanding of mathematical concepts rather than blind memorisation. I aim to ensure students understand why methods work the way they do so that they can confidently apply them to unfamiliar problems. I use a structured, step-by-step approach in lessons, supported by a digital whiteboard (iPad), where I guide students through examples rather than simply giving answers. I ensure that lessons don’t turn into lectures by asking students to explain concepts back to me and asking them questions that verify and deepen their understanding. When students explain their thinking, this helps identify gaps in understanding that can be fixed thereafter and strengthens problem-solving skills.

Lessons typically involve modelled example walkthroughs, guided practice that gradually increases in difficulty, and regular exam-style questions with a strong focus on technique and accuracy. I also focus on exam strategy, including how to interpret questions correctly, structure solutions, and avoid examiners’ traps.

Overall, I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, with the goal of helping them become confident, independent problem-solvers who can succeed in exams and develop a genuine appreciation for Mathematics.
