Abel Emanuel Bancu

I'm Abel, a PhD student in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Kent. I did my BSc in AI at Kent and my MSc in AI at City St George's, University of London, and I program mainly in Python and Java.

I've tutored GCSE Computer Science since 2021, first with GoStudent and then privately with families, and I've helped students raise their grades, in one case from a 4 to an 8. I now teach both GCSE (AQA, OCR, Edexcel) and A-level (AQA, OCR).

My approach is simple: find the gaps with a diagnostic first lesson, break each topic into small steps, go at the student's pace until it clicks, then practise with real exam questions until they can do it on their own under time pressure. A lot of students arrive convinced they're "not a coding person". Most of them just haven't had it explained one step at a time.

Lessons are online, 60 minutes, with a shared whiteboard and a live Python editor. After every lesson, parents get a short written note: what we covered, what went well and the homework. I've written my own practice questions and homework sheets for every topic, so there's always the right material ready.

I'm fluent in English, Spanish and Romanian, and I hold a DBS certificate.
