I understand maths can feel challenging, especially compared to subjects like English where answers can feel more open-ended. But with maths, once you understand the method, it often becomes much easier because there is usually a clear right or wrong answer. That’s why my focus is on helping students reach that “lightbulb moment” where it starts to make sense and feels logical rather than overwhelming.
I break everything down into small, manageable steps and explain the reasoning behind each one, so students don’t just learn how to do it, but understand why they’re doing it. I also encourage students to explain their working out loud, which helps build confidence and makes it easier to spot and fix mistakes.
For example, I’ve worked with students who were completely stuck on topics like fractions or algebra. Instead of moving too quickly, I slowed it right down, went back to basics, and used simple, real-life examples until they could see how it worked. Once that foundation was in place, they were able to build on it and tackle harder questions on their own.
I’ve also adapted lessons depending on the student, such as using visual aids for those who learn better by seeing patterns, or focusing on timed exam questions for students who needed help improving speed and accuracy under pressure.
With my background as a paralegal, I bring strong organisation, attention to detail and clear communication into every lesson. I stay calm, patient and consistent, and I genuinely want to help students feel more confident with maths and realise it’s not as impossible as it first seems.
