You don’t *need* specific qualifications to teach singing lessons in the same way you will need them to teach maths in high schools, for example. However it’s important to note that a good singer does not always equal a good teacher - it’s important to have a high standard of training to understand the voice itself so correct guidance can be given to support. The last thing anyone wants is for someone’s voice to end up damaged due to improper technique! To give use myself as an example combination of training and experience - I have a 1st class degree in musical theatre from London College of Music (included vocal technique, music theory, ensemble/harmony work, vocal styles/genres, vocal health, etc.) as well as a wealth of experince in teaching at stagecoach, various high schools with a cover agency, and pre-school. I myself have also completed my singing exams with LCM when I was in high school. Now, I also work as a professional performer - so my knowledge extends from purely singing into industry insight to further understand industry trends for shows casting and sought after vocal styles. This combination of both a high standard of quality training as well as professional experience in performing and teaching, makes me uniquely qualified as an expert performing arts coach. It’s important to consider what you have to offer as a *teacher*, not just your own skills and talent. Please don’t take this to assume you are not or would not be an amazing teacher, I just think it’s something everyone should consider in death and take very seriously! :)
