Why does "ciao" mean hello and goodbye in Italian?

James 1 answer
Good afternoon, isn't there another way to say hello in different ways? At first I get confused when I say "ciao"... Thank you!

There is no logical explanation, that's just the way the language developed. You can also say "Salve" but "ciao" sounds more natural, especially among young people. Keep practicing and it will end up coming to you naturally! I hope that helps, James.
