Advert description
Hi, I’m Jake!
I’m currently at the University of York studying Economics. This is degree is heavily linked to many aspects of maths courses which gives me great understanding of many mathematical concepts. I am passionate about tutoring as it’s a great opportunity to help people and try to give them the best possible chance to realise their full potential. I have a patient demeanour and would help students to develop and improve at their own pace. I believe in maths the best way to learn is to dive in and work through example questions until you are confident with how to tackle them and the different ways the subject can be presented in an exam style. This would involve me slowly and clearly walking through example questions and then letting the student have a go themselves,. Whilst being read to aid and prompt with any problems they have, but to ultimately allow them to work out the answer for themselves. However, I would be very flexible in how I worked with students depending on what best suited the needs and preferences of each individual. This is because, I believe that everyone learns things in different ways and consequently requires a slightly different method of explaining concepts in order to fully understand them. Therefore, I have a very adaptable approach to best helping students progress with their studies. I am also very familiar with the GCSE Maths curriculum as I have just recently studied it myself and since then been tutoring it. Being an experienced tutor means I am confident and assured in my teaching style and familiar in working with students across a broad range of current aptitudes with maths and the different grade targets they may therefore have. I am also heavily experienced in taking exams, this means that I can also provide my advice and guidance on how best to prepare for exams. This includes what things that worked best for me when preparing for my own exams and some tips or methods that may suit the learning style of each student.
