Advert description
I am a passionate teacher with direct experience in education practice and research. During university, I tutored English, Afrikaans, and French for four years. I consistently helped students to raise their marks and confidence in the language that they were working on. After graduating, I taught English language and literature and French for two and a half years at a prestigious high school in South Africa. I managed to engage my learners through a variety of interactive pedagogies and through compiling unique course modules tailored to their needs.
After two and a half years of teaching, I wanted to study in the UK to broaden my practice. I was granted full funding by the Skye Foundation to do this. I chose an MA in literature and culture at King’s College, London as it allowed me to focus my dissertation on education, while my coursework focussed on literature. I underwent fieldwork in rural South Africa for my thesis, researching high school students’ relationship towards language and education, and the creative ways in which they work constructively despite a constrained environment. This MA, in other words, combined my two passions, language and education studies, in the most effective possible way.
Now that I have my MA, I am keen to return to teaching with a broader knowledge of both pedagogical and linguistic landscapes. I have missed interacting with students, and helping them develop their language skills dearly over this last year. I can’t wait to get back to it!
