You can view your tutor’s experience, skills, and expertise in their profile.

Reviews from other students can help you understand a tutor’s teaching style and classes. All student reviews are validated by the FindTutors team to ensure authenticity.

You will see that some of our tutors have a Verified Tutor Badge, which means that they have had their personal details (rates, phone number, email address) confirmed by our team. We check all of our tutors’ certificates and diplomas.
How can I find a tutor?

Find a tutor with our search feature - it’s easy!

Simply choose the subject you want to learn, and select your city to find the top tutors near you. You can also search for online classes.

You can filter your search by location and learning level to find the tutor that best suits your needs.

Once you have selected your preferred tutor(s), you can contact them to request a lesson.
Why should I contact more than one tutor about private lessons?

You can contact as many tutors as you like!

Taking the opportunity to talk with different tutors before signing up for classes can help make sure you find the right person. Feel free to reach out to and speak to several tutors to find the perfect fit for your learning goals.
How long does it take to receive a response from tutors?

Our tutors' average response time is between 24 and 48 hours.

In exceptional circumstances, the response may take more than 48 hours. Remember that you can contact as many tutors as you need.
How can I contact a tutor?
Click the ‘Contact’ button at the top of a tutor’s profile to send them a message via our instant messaging system. The tutor will reply as soon as possible.
Who are the tutors on FindTutors?
Our tutors come from a wide range of backgrounds. Some are experienced professionals, others are qualified school teachers, university lecturers, or students specialising in their subject. You’ll also find passionate autodidacts who love sharing their skills. You can view each tutor’s qualifications, experience, and reviews directly on their profile.
What should I do if I find a suspicious profile?
If you believe a tutor or student profile seems suspicious, or if you need to report an issue, please contact our support team at info@findtutors.co.uk. We’ll review the situation promptly.
How can I change my tutor?
If you’d like to switch tutors, simply cancel your current lessons and browse the site to find another private teacher.
Can I have more than one tutor at the same time?
Yes — many students take lessons with several tutors at once. Simply contact the tutors you’re interested in and arrange your lessons based on your schedule.
How can I book a lesson on FindTutors?
Once you’ve found your ideal tutor, visit their profile and click “Contact” at the top right. Enter your details, send a message explaining your needs, and wait for their reply to arrange your first session.

Should I review my tutor?

Your reviews help students like you to learn more about a tutor before contacting them. They also allow tutors to demonstrate their expertise to potential students. While it is not compulsory to leave a review, we encourage you to do so.

In order to leave a review, your tutor must send you a feedback request. Feel free to ask them to send one to you if you have not received a request.

Which subjects can I learn on FindTutors?
On FindTutors, you can choose from over 350 subjects, each offering plenty of variety. You’ll find private tutors for all kinds of disciplines — from sports (tennis, swimming, football, etc.), manual skills (mechanics, DIY, cooking), and academic subjects (maths, biology, English, history, etc.), to languages (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Italian, etc.), music (piano, guitar, singing), IT and coding, law, business studies, and many more.

Yes. Some tutors are happy to offer group lessons. To check if this option is available, contact your chosen tutor directly via their profile.
Can I take a trial lesson before committing?

Yes! You can take a free trial lesson with any tutor who offers this service. Many tutors provide this opportunity so you can get to know their teaching style.

You can try as many tutors as you like, with one free trial class per tutor. Please note: only one free trial is available per tutor. Further lessons must be paid for.
How do trial lessons work?

To book a trial lesson:

  • 1. Contact the tutor of your choice
  • 2. Schedule your first class directly with them

You can take trial lessons with multiple tutors, as long as each offers a free first session. Please note: one free trial per tutor applies.

How long is a private lesson?
Most lessons last around one hour, but this can vary depending on the tutor. Some may offer shorter sessions (e.g. 45–50 minutes), while others may extend slightly beyond an hour. We recommend discussing this directly with your tutor before your first lesson.
FindTutors payments and subscriptions
How do I pay for my class?

FindTutors does not intervene in the payment of lessons. All payments are made directly between the tutor and the student.

To simplify the process, we advise you to agree on the price and method of payment with your tutor in advance.

Click your profile picture at the top right of the page, select Settings, and update your email address in the relevant section.
How can I delete my FindTutors account?
Go to Settings from your profile picture menu and select “Delete my account”. Confirm your choice, and your account will be permanently removed.
Create and optimise your tutor profile
What information should I include in my profile?

Tutors who complete their profiles are more likely to attract the attention of and be contacted by potential students. The following information should appear in your profile:

  • A professional headshot photo
  • An introduction that includes information about your teaching experience and methods
  • An ad for the subject you teach, including an original title and description of your classes
  • Your qualifications and studies
  • Endorsement reviews from former students
  • Your availability

In addition, verifying your profile helps to reassure potential students, while a video introduction can also help you to stand out from other tutors.

Why do I need to add a photo to my profile and what should it look like?

Including a professional headshot (face and shoulder) photo in your profile helps to make a positive impression and build trust with potential students.

Ensure that:

  • You are alone in the photo
  • The photo is high-quality, clear and front facing
  • You appear friendly and professional - don’t forget to smile!
How can I request reviews from my students?

Positive reviews from former students on your tutor profile help to give new students the confidence to reach out to you.

You can request reviews from students found via FindTutors by clicking on the “Request Reviews” button in your profile. Alternatively, you can share the link provided via email, Whatsapp, or social media in order to request reviews from students you have taught outside of the FindTutors platform.

Students will receive a message asking them to rate their experience of your classes. Once FindTutors team has verified a review’s authenticity and content, it will appear on your profile and ads.

How can I increase the visibility of my ads?

Being a good tutor is important, but you need to be able to promote yourself! FindTutors offers a variety of ways to help you gain visibility among potential students:

  • Become a Verified Tutor. Your profile will show a Verified Tutor Badge that validates you as one of our best private teachers.
  • Use our Highlighted Ad feature to boost your ad to the top of the list and gain x10 visibility - first page results always get more clicks!
  • Become a FindTutors blog writer and create dynamic content to engage potential students
  • Use your expertise to answer our students’ subject and study questions
How many ads can I publish?
You can post up to three free ads for different subjects and/or cities. We advise you to post as many ads as possible in order to reach a variety of students - more published ads means greater visibility!
Can I edit an advert after it’s published?
Yes. You can edit or delete your listings at any time. You can have up to three free adverts active simultaneously. If you’d like to publish more, you can upgrade to our Unlimited Plan (£9.95 per year) to post unlimited adverts.
What is the Verified Tutor Programme?
This programme verifies tutor profiles to ensure quality and reliability. Verified tutors receive a green badge, improved visibility, and more trust from students.
Is there a commitment to the Verified Tutor Programme?
No, there’s no commitment. You can cancel your membership at any time, but remember to do so at least 8 days before your renewal date. Otherwise, your subscription will renew automatically for another year.
How do I cancel my Verified Tutor subscription?
Go to Settings → My Subscriptions, where you’ll see a list of your active plans. Click “Cancel subscription” next to the Trusted Tutor Programme. Remember to do this at least 8 days before renewal to avoid automatic renewal.
What is a Highlighted Ad?
The Highlighted Ad boosts your profile’s visibility. It automatically moves your listing to the top of search results every 4 days for 30 days and adds a blue "Highlighted" badge to your ad so students notice you first.
Is there a commitment with the Highlighted Ad?
No — you can cancel or renew a Highlighted Ad at any time. Just make sure to cancel at least 4 days before the renewal date to avoid automatic renewal.
How can I cancel my Highlighted Ad?
To cancel your Highlighted Ad, go to Settings → My Subscriptions, where you’ll see your active services. Simply click “Cancel subscription” next to your Highlighted Ad plan.

Which subjects can I teach on FindTutors?

You can browse all available subjects when you post your first advert or by using our search filters.

How can I become a tutor on FindTutors?

It’s easy!

  • Go to the Become a tutor section of our website.
  • Complete the form to create your first advert.

Include the subject you’d like to teach, how you run your lessons, your rates, and your contact preferences. Once approved, your listing will be visible to students.

Manage your classes and communication with students
How can students contact me?
Students interested in your lessons can contact you directly through your FindTutors profile via our instant messaging system. This allows you to respond directly to students through the FindTutors platform.
Is my phone number visible to students?
As a Verified Tutor, you can choose to show your phone number to students so that they can contact you directly.
How can I contact students?
Students interested in your classes will contact you directly via the FindTutors instant messaging system. Please be attentive and respond to requests quickly to ensure that you do not lose potential students.
What should I do when a student contacts me?
When you receive a tutoring request via our instant messaging service, respond to the student as soon as possible. It is important to reply even if you have to decline the request, as the student is still awaiting a response.
What can I do if I can’t find students?

If you’re struggling to attract students, try the following:

  • Write an article for our educational blog to increase your visibility — your name, subjects and contact button will appear on your post. For more information, read our FindTutors Blog Guide.
  • Check the student ads section where learners publish adverts for tutors.
  • Publish multiple adverts (up to three free, or unlimited with the £9.95/year plan).
  • Boost your advert to the top of search results using our “Promote my advert” feature — ideal for increasing your visibility.
FindTutors payments and subscriptions
How are payments handled?

FindTutors does not intervene in the payment of classes. All payments are handled directly between the tutor and student.

To simplify the process, we recommend that tutors and students agree upon prices and payment methods prior to beginning lessons.
Do I have to pay commission to FindTutors?
No. You keep 100% of what you earn. FindTutors does not charge tutors any commission.
Do I need to declare my income?

Yes, if you earn money through tutoring, you’re responsible for declaring it to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

If you work as a self-employed tutor, you can register as a sole trader and report your income through the Self Assessment system.

If you wish to completely unsubscribe from the portal, you can do so by sending a written request from the email address you used to register, via our contact form. If you wish to use some services but not appear in the directory, please let us know exactly what you require so that we can assess your request.
Does investing in advertising about my business or posting job offers really work?
