There are many topics covered in your psychology lessons, such as applied psychology and abnormal psychology. This essay is going to give a brief overview on the possible occupations and requirements of each branch in psychology so that you can decide which one is the best for you.

The most commonly discussed branch of psychology in real life is often applied psychology. It examines a wide range of practical issues in life, such as stress, meditation, criminal behaviour and human factor. Usually, a qualification in applied psychology can bring you jobs or further education in Human Resources, mental health practition, teaching, and criminal psychology.

Educational psychology or developmental psychology can also lead to careers in teaching, however they focus more on the cogtive development of students, especially young children, and try to understand the best way of delivering education. They may be considered the most promising branch in psychology career-wise, yet they also require huge patience to work with children, especially children with special education needs.

If you want to become a therapist or a psychological counsellor, you should consider studying for clinical psychology or abnormal psychology. They care about the psychopathological behaviour in humans and the jobs they provide usually require investments during early careers, for example sessions with your supervisor to discuss cases and clients. And, always check if your degree is recognised by the British Society of Psychology if you wish to study clinical psychology in a university.

Finally, cogtive psychology and cogtive neuroscience are for people with a passion for problem-solving and analysis. It may lead to a career in academy and requires experimentations and academic writing. You should also be good at statistics too, since they usually requires data analysis.

These are some branches in psychology that you might want to pursue. Overall, you should make your judgement based on your skills, personality and career choices.
