Advert description
I am a passionate music educator specialising in piano, rhythm and drumming, African music, improvisation, and practical music education. I deliver engaging, structured, and interactive lessons designed to help learners develop musical skills, confidence, creativity, and a lasting enjoyment of music. My approach is particularly suited to online teaching, where clear demonstrations, effective communication, and active student participation are essential.
My teaching experience includes working with students in Years 7–9 at Harris Academy Beulah Hill, where I taught rhythm and drumming as part of the music curriculum. I divided students into smaller groups to encourage collaboration, participation, and practical learning. Students practised counting rhythms from one to eight, maintaining a steady beat, and coordinating their performances. I also introduced leadership and improvisation activities, enabling individual students to create rhythms while others maintained the underlying beat. This developed their rhythmic accuracy, listening skills, teamwork, leadership, and confidence.
I will apply these practical teaching principles to online music lessons by creating a supportive virtual learning environment where students can see demonstrations, listen carefully, practise independently, and receive immediate feedback. I will use clear verbal instructions, step-by-step demonstrations, repetition, guided practice, and appropriate digital resources to ensure learners understand each activity. I will also encourage students to ask questions, demonstrate their progress, and participate actively throughout each session.
For online piano lessons, I will support beginners in developing correct posture, hand positioning, finger numbers, basic music reading, rhythm, scales, chords, and simple melodies. I will demonstrate techniques clearly, break challenging tasks into manageable steps, and allow students time to practise while I observe and provide constructive feedback. Lessons will be adapted to each learner’s age, ability, interests, and progress, with achievable practice targets to encourage independent learning between sessions.
For rhythm, drumming, and African music, I will use call-and-response exercises, body percussion, rhythmic patterns, listening activities, and improvisation.
