I have three years’ experience teaching Mandarin to small groups of three- to five-year-olds and in one-to-one sessions. I introduce Chinese characters through singing, storytelling, and games, which helps students recall them through narrative. Playing games reinforces the characters being learned, while drawing on children’s interests makes learning memorable. Lessons are joyful, immersive experiences that capture a child’s imagination and naturally integrate into their daily world. My greatest achievement is hearing feedback from parents without a Mandarin background: their child counts in Mandarin while playing.
