My first lesson is mostly listening. I want to know why you are learning Arabic, what you have tried before, and what you actually want to do with the language, because the plan for a student preparing for a GCSE looks nothing like the plan for someone who wants to talk to their partner's family. From there I build the lessons around you. If you are a complete beginner we start with the sounds and the alphabet, and you will be reading short words within a few sessions. If you want to speak, we speak from lesson one, even if it is three words, because waiting until your grammar is "ready" is the fastest way to never start. I teach Modern Standard Arabic for reading, writing and formal use, and Levantine dialect for real conversation, and I will tell you honestly which one serves your goal rather than selling you both. I explain in English whenever you need it. I was born and educated in Damascus, hold a university degree, and have worked for years as an Arabic–English translator, so I can tell you why Arabic does something, not only that it does. I am learning a language from scratch myself at the moment. So I know exactly how it feels to sit in a lesson and not be able to say what you mean. My lessons are patient, structured, and free of any pressure to be perfect. You will finish each one knowing what you learned and what we do next.
