I have 6 years teaching experience as a lecturer in Mathematics in a federal polytechnic in my country. I am here for a PGCE in secondary education.

I will be using variety of teaching strategies which will be guided by the progress of the student.
Will introduce Maths keywords/vocabulary, concepts and a flexible lesson plan which will involve the objectives, unambiguous explanations ( using a simple Maths concept as a Belltask to a more complex one) and step-by-step instructions to understand what is expected in a math problem to achieve an excellent result.
It is very easy to ignore the importance of literacy in teaching mathematics. To avoid the common misspellings of maths vocabulary made by pupils, actvities/tasks can be prepared to include opportunity for pupils to 'write' words and not numbers alone.
Also, rather than assume that my students should have prior knowledge of a concept that is needed to progress through a lesson, I will set up a starter tasks to test their level of knowledge or required skill.
Make use of variety of teaching resources: pictorial representations, artifacts, mini whiteboard etc. This will reveal the importance of a successful lesson even with complex topics.
In the teaching and learning of some certain topics, eg. Geometry, a range of approaches will be used for a better understanding, example, using imaginary/concrete pictures and shapes.
Most importantly, I will like to end with this; emphasis is usually placed on teaching mathematical concepts and leaving out educating the pupils on why that branch of mathematics is worth learning, its significance and application to their daily lives, and the world around them
