I began studying mathematics in my mid 20s after leaving school at 16 years old. I understand how to overcome subject issues

Advert description
I taught maths for 22 years, the first 13 in school and the last 9 at university. My experience and subject knowledge is both wide and deep.
I have had exam marking experience at GCSE and 'A' level and have also taught many students privately at a variety of levels, including mature students.
I have an active interest in the use of mathematical software to help visualise mathematics for students and will tailor lessons to suit the needs and levels of any student.

I have been teaching for 22 years after a spell in industry as a research mathematician. The first 13 years in teaching was spent in two secondary schools during which I taught mathematics for the full range of KS3,4 and 5. This included all Pure (Core) and all Applied Further Mathematics modules available. I have also taught the first two Statistics Modules from time to time, however my degree and Ph.D. were both in Applied Mathematics and so this is my speciality for anyone requiring tuition at degree level or above. The last 9 years of my teaching career, just before my retirement, was at the then Mathematics Education Centre at Sheffield Hallam University during which I designed and taught a variety of mainly Pure mathematics modules on the Centre’s 3-year B.Sc. in Mathematics with Education.
Throughout all of my teaching I have been fascinated with methods of visualising often difficult to understand concepts. To help this interest I have developed many resources from several pieces of mathematical software, most notably GeoGebra and Microsoft Excel. GeoGebra is free and is an excellent tool for geometrically visualising many algebraic (and Geometric!) concepts. I have some online resources here: to give you a better idea of the power of this wonderful software.
I have nothing but free time on my hands now (except for the occasional bit of veggie gardening!) and would be very excited and do my best to help you in a variety of approaches with your own journeys into mathematics, whatever your needs or difficulties.
