Advert description
My name is Jacob, I am 30 years old and have recently completed a PhD in English Literature from University College Dublin (UCD).
I was a tutor to first- and second-year undergraduate students at UCD during my PhD, where I taught modules on literary theory as well as classes on literature from a variety of periods. My PhD specialised in contemporary English, Scottish and American fiction. I also hold a Masters in Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture from the University of York as well as a Bachelors degree in English (also from the University of York).
I like to adopt a relaxed atmosphere in my classes, developing a dialogue between student and tutor which encourages my students to think critically about texts they examine. My classes are led by student interests and concerns and I seek to tailor my teaching for individual students.
I am interested in assisting undergraduate level students in English and related literature or those completing their A-Levels in humanities subjects, such as English, History, and Philosophy or related fields.
I am particularly passionate about access to education, having reached doctoral level from an underrepresented background myself. I am therefore very willing to offer lower rates to those in financial hardship and anyone who is attended further or higher education from an underprivileged background.
I am mainly available all day on weekends and during weekday evenings. If you are interested please do not hesitate to get in touch.
