Advert description
I am fully-qualified English teacher with a first-class degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford university and a postgraduate degree from King`s College London.
I have seven years of teaching and tutoring experience from leading independent schools in Brighton and Bristol where I have worked as Head of KS3 English, 2nd in Department and Head of Year 8.
In terms of my tutoring approach, I offer sessions which respond to the particular strengths and needs of the pupil. Through questioning, instant feedback on work and adaptive planning, I hope to create lessons that build pupils` skills and confidence.
I generally build tutoring sessions around practice papers, example answers and mark-schemes, breaking down the tasks so the student can work on the elements they find most difficult.
I teach students ranging from Year 7 to Year 13 and I am familiar with a variety of exam-boards at both GCSE and A-Level, including Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and AQA. I have a strong understanding of exam specifications, mark-schemes and course structures. I have worked with pupils for 11+, 13+ and university (including Oxbridge) applications.
English is a subject which requires a whole host of skills - timing, planning, structuring, careful reading, comprehension, accurate SPAG (spelling, punctuation, grammar), creativity, analysis, proof-reading - and my lessons encourage students to identify their areas for improvement and to implement practical strategies for overcoming areas of weakness.
I consider myself a warm and enthusiastic teacher. It is my belief that students learn best when they are engaged yet relaxed, when they feel motivated to ask questions and reflect positively on their work.
Should you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
