Advert description
I am a writer, tutor and educator with significant experience of both private tutoring and educational support work in high schools ranging from exam scribing to invigilation and literacy support.

I am very familiar with English Language/Literature curriculum and History (as well as Drama and Film Studies) at GCSE and A-level, and also Baccalaureate and undergraduate level. I work to the syllabus - particularly the Shakespeare set texts and other poems and plays at GCSE and A-level. I specialise in helping students to improve their study confidence through wider understanding of their subject and in particular developing a love of reading for pleasure as well as education and information. I also help with essay technique and close analysis of exam questions.
One of my proudest achievements of all my time in education support was tutoring a young man through his GCSE history, between November 2023 and June 2024 to attain a 6 (B) in his result. He was attending a community college in Yorkshire which did not have a history teacher. All our sessions were online and by phone. He and I navigated our way through the Edexcel GCSE curriculum together over those months, with an emphasis on oral techniques of reading notes aloud, structuring sentences and close attention to the examination questions. The topics included the modern 'trinity' of the Tudors, the Nazis and the Cold War, encompassing the broad sweep of Twentieth Century as well as the history of medicine from 1250 onwards.

I also have extensive experience of invigilating and scribing public examinations (GCSE and A-level) and close support work with students at Harris Academy Battersea and other London high schools, and latterly at Wellington School, as well as facilitating work for PHSE with charitable trust Explore.

In my time, I have scribed for teenage examinees with English as a second language; tutored the current trinity of Nazis, the Tudors and Cold War to GCSE and A-level students; explained the magic of Shakespeare to teenage students; written essays, reviews and feature articles on historical themes.

During the Covid pandemic I expanded my tutoring of History, English set texts, Politics, Media and International Relations on Zoom - internationally as well as locally.
