Immersion-based English language lessons

Hello! My name is Victoria and I've been teaching myself different languages for over a decade. Having all but entirely self-taught both English and Japanese, I've devised some strongly reliable methods for language acquisition over the years. I believe that modern, systematic education lacks the personal involvement needed to properly teach a language. This is where I come in. My method consists of a balance between immersion in the language (covering reading, speaking, listening and writing) and spaced repetition for scientifically proven memorisation of vocabulary, grammar, and other difficult information.

I do not aim to test, grade, or scare my students - that's for their teachers to do. My only goal is to get them speaking with the ease and freedom of expression everybody deserves.

My aim with the first lesson is to establish a baseline with my student. Communication in a language you're not confident in can be intimidating, and many people tend to be insecure about things like their accent, so I make it a priority to create a safe, positive learning environment. My aim with the first lesson is to establish a baseline with my student. Communication in a language you're not confident in can be intimidating, and many people tend to be insecure about things like their accent, so I make it a priority to create a safe, positive learning environment. I also like to get to know my students - language is a deeply personal part of oneself, as it's how we present ourselves to the world.

After that, we will work together to gauge a more accurate level, and we will discuss areas in which the student would like to improve. It's around this point where I will also introduce some learning materials.

After settling on a regular pace, our focus will shift to maximizing immersion and exposure to subtler changes of tone, intent and vocabulary. Once we've made headway towards comfortable use of the language, we can move to expanding the student's lexicon. This will teach them the finer details needed to express themselves.
