Qualified and Experienced Maths (GCSE and Functional Skills) Lecturer providing online private tuition with excellent pass rate

Advert description
I have more than 20 years experience of teaching GCSE Maths and Functional Skills Maths (Levels 1 and 2) in colleges and as a private tutor. I am very enthusiastic about the learning process and I build excellent working relationships with my learners. I understand what it is like to feel frustrated when encountering difficult concepts and this helps me to understand the reasons why many people find maths intimidating. My natural empathy with learners means I can often anticipate areas some of my students will find difficult so I take steps to mitigate this. In these situations, my role is to reassure and build confidence in learners, encouraging them to persevere and practise in order to master mathematical concepts. With more advanced learners, I am careful to ensure that they are sufficiently challenged and engaged. In my one-to-one work, I adopt a flexible approach in which I have a plan, but I will alter this based on what the student brings to the lesson on that day. When I am teaching I have infinite patience and I urge my learners to be patient with themselves. The feedback I receive from students is my lessons are fun, enjoyable and well-organised, that I explain things well and that I am supportive, energetic and enthusiastic.

Below is some of the feedback I have received from my learners:
"Hey just to let you know I got a grade 5 in my maths, I want thank you for all the help and support you have given to me."
Bethany (Foundation GCSE)

"I just wanted to say thank you so much for your help and support this year, you were an amazing teacher and I am very grateful! I had a great time doing 1 to 1’s with you."
Joel (Foundation GCSE)

"You’ve been a wonderful teacher. You always explained everything in a great way, understanding that we all learn differently and providing lots of different techniques to learn and offering support to all! And you’re a lovely person on top of it all. Couldn’t wish for a better teacher!"
Cyntia (Foundation GCSE)

"I'm absolutely buzzing that I received a 4. Thanks for all your hard work over the past couple of years to get me to this point. Coming to your classes have been so much fun and I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks again for everything."
Terry (Foundation GCSE)

"Pass, fail, lose or draw, whatever the outcome, it’s been a pleasure attending your lessons. The enthusiasm you show is a lesson in itself !"

In my online tuition sessions I am happy for my students to take the lead and decide topics or questions they want to work on but if they are unsure, I always have ideas of what we can do. I have worked as a maths lecturer in colleges for more than 20 years so I have a wealth of excellent resources to chose from. I can always sense if learners are finding questions too easy or too hard, which helps me to pitch the tuition at the best level to enable them to make progress. I give my learners constant feedback and reassurance whatever we are doing as building confidence is a huge part of the learning process with maths.

My lessons are usually an hour long, we use Zoom or Microsoft Teams but I am happy to use any other platform. Sometimes my students email me questions they want to work on in advance, or send photos of questions they are having trouble with. If the learner has the technology to do so, we may use collaborative whiteboards, otherwise I share my screen and so that we can build up solutions to questions together through discussion. As learning maths is all about doing maths, my learners are always working on tasks, which makes the time pass quickly.
