I am a native Spanish speaker, an experienced teacher and tutor, and an international examiner for IB, Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel.

I have worked as an examiner for:

• IB – more than 10 years
• Cambridge International (CIE) – more than 9 years
• Pearson Edexcel – more than 5 years

So I bring two things to my teaching that are particularly valuable when preparing for examinations:

I know Spanish from the inside — and I know the examination system from the other side.

Over the years, I have read and assessed a very large number of students' examination responses. I have seen what separates a good answer from an excellent one, and I know the mistakes that can quietly cost students valuable marks.

This experience is at the heart of the way I teach.

It's not just about knowing Spanish. It's about knowing how to use it to gain marks.

In lessons, we work on the areas that will make the greatest difference to your child's performance, including:

developing accurate and natural Spanish
expanding vocabulary and using it appropriately
improving grammatical accuracy
developing stronger written and spoken responses
learning how to express and justify ideas effectively
understanding exactly what each question is asking
avoiding common examination mistakes
becoming familiar with the assessment criteria and mark schemes
learning how to move an answer from one mark band to the next

One of the things I particularly enjoy is taking a student's existing work and showing them exactly what is working, where they are losing marks and what they could do differently next time.

For students who are already doing reasonably well, this can be especially important. The difference between a good grade and the very highest grade is often not simply knowing more Spanish. It is knowing how to demonstrate what you know in the way the examination rewards.
