English Language and Literature tutor teaching students all ages

I am an English Language and Literature undergraduate at Oxford University offering private, one-to-one tuition in English Literature and Language. Classes will focus on drawing out the creativity in individuals and helping them to apply these exciting ideas in literary ways. With a close attention to developing critical thinking skills, each class will be tailored to the needs of the student and their circumstances - whether that be exam requirements or personal targets. This will involve practising close analysis on literary passages, as well as teaching basic and more advanced spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Whether your child is in primary school reading Roald Dahl and Phillip Pullman, in secondary school reading Jane Austen and Shakespeare, or in sixth form reading Chaucer and George Orwell, I am excited to delve into the books they are reading and tailor the sessions to their personal interests.

Classes will focus strongly on the importance of testing out ideas and learning from mistakes as a way of improving. For example, I will use short creative writing exercises so that students have the chance to try out different literary techniques for themselves. Afterwards, I will support them in analysing their own work, encouraging them to evaluate what is effective and what is less effective in their writing.

I have 1 year of teaching experience, tutoring children aged 12-16 and I am keen to make learning fun and enjoyable, as well as educational.
