I believe in a holistic teaching method; a teacher should tend to the needs to the interests and abilities of the student. As an demonstrative example of this, I would first learn the strengths and weaknesses of the student, see what subject he's most passionate about, and aim to focus on his weaker subjects through more fun exercises and his stronger subjects through slightly more demanding exercises.
