I give lessons in English literature and language. I specialise in helping boys with ADHD, but my skills are widely applicable.

Advert description
After receiving my undergraduate degree in English from the University of Cambridge, I taught literature, language and critical thinking skills to Hong Kong students. I teach English Literature and English Language at GCSE and A-level as a private tutor. My teaching style is personalised to the individual students' needs. However, I have found that when it comes to teaching students with ADHD and other neurodivergences, there are consistently two related needs that must be addressed before success can be achieved. 1. Students need to understand what use English subjects are to them. As someone with ADHD myself, I understand that nothing energises the neurodivergent mind like finally grasping the point of a task. Once this understanding is unlocked, the ADHD superpower of hyperfocus can be used for success. 2. Neurodivergent students need to understand the underlying principles of language and communication. This is similar to their need to understand the use of studying English. They need to understand the use, so to speak, of language itself. This is because neurodivergent students take nothing for granted (which actually makes them excellent students of English literature!). So it's often necessary to get more "advanced" before they can proceed with the basic and intermediate. By tailoring key insights usually reserved for university students to the younger student, I have helped ADHD students become excited about the topic; unlock the ability to have enriching and insightful thoughts about English subjects; and achieve top grades. ---- I have ADHD myself, so I know from both personal and teaching experience that it and other neurodivergences can be a superpower.
