Advert description
I am a professional contemporary figurative artist with national and international recognition, including awards and support from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
I hold a First Class BA in Fine Art with an Exceptional Academic Achievement award, and I am currently completing a part-time MA.
I have over five years of professional practice and extensive teaching experience with adults and young adults, from beginners to advanced students, including university and foundation portfolio applicants.
My teaching balances traditional art techniques with contemporary criticism and ideas, helping students understand both how and why work is made.
I break complex ideas down to their fundamentals, supporting students to develop confidence, a sustainable practice, and a strong personal voice. My own interests include magical realism in literature, the history of art and painting, and social history, which often shape the way I teach and discuss making.
I hold an Advanced DBS check and Level 3 Safeguarding, and I regularly work with students over longer blocks of sessions to support progression into higher education and independent artistic practice.
My teaching takes place online, but I have access to purpose built studios within Newcastle Upon Tyne we can make use of or I can travel on request.
My one-to-one online lessons are structured, calm, and process-led, designed around clear goals agreed with each student across a block of sessions. Lessons are 60 minutes via video call and may include discussion, screen-sharing, demonstrations, and tailored exercises to complete between sessions.
