I bring ten years of experience working as an environmental engineer in addition to my undergraduate education. As a field, environmental engineering works at the intersection of traditional engineering methods, legal regulations, and societal wants and expectations. So I am fluent in communicating the relationship between the theoretical and the practical. My undergraduate programme gave me the opportunity to work for three years as a physics teaching assistant and tutor. Since then I have continued to be active as a science fair judge and tutor for a variety of age groups. I follow a basic socratic method. Ask questions to understand what the the student currently understands, begin asking questions that push just beyond the bounds of their knowledge, and accelerate or slow down depending on how quickly they appear to pick up the ideas. If given questions by the student, try to give answers in the form of a story. What did the scientist who figured something out want to solve, how did they go about doing it.
