Advert description
I am an academic English specialist with a first class Bachelors degree from the University of Manchester, currently studying for my Master's degree in English Literature and American studies at the same.
I have proven training and experience in tutoring having previously helped GCSE students achieve marks two above their predicted grades and am confident in both GCSE and A-Level English Language and Literature specifications having achieved a 9 and an A* in my own exams respectively.
Having applied to and received offers from several Red-Brick and Russel Group universities, I am also confident in helping A-Level students with personal statements and applications especially for degrees in the arts and humanities.
My lessons for GCSE-level students each focus on one of the 13 assessment objectives for literature and language which students are tested for in their exams.
If there is no homework to review, we begin with a brief discussion and warmup exercise where I gauge their understanding of the objective before moving on to a writing task which replicates the kind of assessment found in a GCSE Literature or Language exam.
After the writing task is complete, we take some time to review the answer together, highlighting the places where they have met the assessment objective and noting down areas for improvement. If this is not our first lesson, we then go over how well the student has applied the assessment objectives we have discussed in previous sessions and, if needed, complete a short exercise to reinforce that knowledge.
Finally, we spend the last part of the lesson solidifying everything we have gone over with a recall task where I ask the student to either make bullet points on what they have learnt or verbally convey to me the key points of the lesson. Before the end, I'll set a short writing task to complete between now and the next lesson and spend some time explaining what needs to be done and answering any questions the student has.
