For younger or less confident students, I put a lot of focus on encouragement and celebrating small wins, since building confidence is often just as important as the subject content itself. I also believe in structure. I set small assignments between sessions where useful, and I use short tests or recap questions to track a student's progress properly, so both the student and I can see clear improvement over time rather than just a vague sense of getting better. Typical lesson length: My lessons typically run for 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the age of the student and the subject. For younger children, I tend to keep sessions a little shorter and more focused, since attention spans are shorter, while older students working towards exams often benefit from a full hour to properly work through problems and past questions.
