I have lots of experience of teaching and tutoring English language to Chinese speakers (Mandarin and Cantonese) in Taiwan and Guangdong (Shenzhen). In total this amounts to over 2 years part-time and includes: corporate English language courses (Foxconn, Mattel, NYK), school-age afterschool classes (Shane English TW), small private classes (groups of 4+, mostly adults), and individual tutoring (ages 3 to 60+). Every learner has different needs, and there are different ways to help them develop langauge abilities, I am a strong believer that teaching language is about assisting and supporting learners by providing them with tools and ways to acquire and develop skills for themselves. Sometimes this might be drill based activity, other times this might be finding attractive immersive content. Making things fun almost always helps, children may prefer games, whereas adults may prefer to apply language to real world challenges they want to use language skills for.
