I would start by getting to know my student to see what level they are at. That way, I can quickly brush over what they do now to consolidate any of that understanding and move onto new content.
At starter level, we would go over the alphabet. I would make them recite the English alphabet, write it out and point to letters in a random order to make sure they 100% know it. The next important thing to learn would be personal pronouns then slowly incorporating verbs and adjectives to create sentences. I would also use visuals with key vocabulary.
