I have a Bachelors in Tourism and speak 5 languages. This gives me a wholesome understanding of how languages work. The basis of “getting” languages is identifying where they are similar and where they differ, then there are the exceptions. Once you “get” languages, your brain allows you to learn more and more different ones easily.

I love using music and lyrics to teach English to foreigners. This is exactly how I learned it myself. At a time when the internet still hadn’t been invented, I relied on covers of LPs to understand what singers were saying. This helped me not only with the language itself but also with pronunciation.

I also favour understanding against memorising. Memory only lasts so long, the understanding stays with you for life.
