Advert description
I’m a writer and editor with a strong background in English and humanities education. I have tutored over 20 IB and A-Level English students to date. I’m especially experienced in supporting students who already have some proficiency and passion for the subject ensure they achieve the results they deserve.
I completed the International Baccalaureate in 2020, earning a 7 (A* equivalent) in Higher Level English Literature. I hold a degree from the University of Edinburgh and am currently working on my third novel as part of an MA in Creative Writing.
My approach is best suited to students who are intellectually curious and want to develop holistically as critical readers of literature. I dislike focusing solely on short-term targets (i.e. grades, though students who stick with me over several weeks do see improved marks), preferring teaching strategies that cultivate a long-term understanding and passion for literature, even beyond the outcome of the lessons. Examples of these strategies include (as my MA might signal) using creative writing to teach literary devices, as well as encouraging mixed-media approaches to make study texts more accessible.
At the end of the day though, I also know that students aren’t looking for a repetition of their school lessons. That is why, rather than lecture, I structure my tutorials as a genuine dialogue. I encourage my students to let me know from the outset their desired outcomes, whether that’s essay guidance, exam strategies, or just someone to keep them accountable whilst they complete homework.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me. I am quick to reply!
